Elburn, like most small
communities, has always had an informal (but effective)
Neighborhood Watch program, where neighbors look out for
each other and react to suspicious activity and report
it to the police. Residents in a small community (as
compared to larger communities) have a better sense of
what looks right or what is suspicious. National Light
Out is a program to endorse this philosophy on one
actual day per year.
On Tuesday, August 1st, the
Elburn Police Department is asking all residents to show
your support for National Night Out Against Crime
and the Elburn Community as a whole by turning on your
front porch light and being outside your home meeting
with your neighbors during the hours of 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
However, this year for the
first time there will also be a National Night Cookout
that will be held at the Village Hall / Police
Department.

for the community and hopefully residents will come to
the Village Hall / Police Department at 301 E. North St.
to share and enjoy the festivities.
The Elburn Police need the
support of Elburn residents to do the job of protecting
the community. Everyone is invited, so come and show
your support and help keep Elburn's crime rate low and
"give Neighborhood Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party!"
About National Night Out
The "23rd Annual National
Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event
sponsored by the
National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been
scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2006. We
cordially invite you and your community to be a part of
our NIGHT OUT 2006 team.
Last year's National Night
Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement
agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood
organizations and local officials from over 10,000
communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories,
Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all,
over 34 million people participated in NNO 2005.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is
designed to:
- Heighten crime and
drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support
for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen
neighborhood spirit and police-community
partnerships; and
- Send a message to
criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are
organized and fighting back.
